I work in the information security industry, and through my work I have become familiar with the privacy legislation and the risks of identity theft. Over the last few years I have come across case after case of organisations breaching the privacy regulations – either because they don’t understand their obligations with regards to protecting individuals personal information or worse, because they consider the cost of meeting those obligations too great.

Whatever the cause, they usually get away with it because most people are not aware of their rights.

So, I started this site for three reasons:

· To help more individuals understand their rights before handing over any personal information,

· To help organisations understand what their privacy compliance requirements are, and

· To raise awareness of the risks should personal information get in the wrong hands – because even if organisations are meeting their legal requirements, doesn’t mean that they’re meeting their moral obligations!
